*Gendér Wayang is a style of gamelan music originating from Bali, Indonesia. It is used to accompany the Indonesian shadow puppet play known as Wayang Kulit as well as other sacred Hindu rituals. This is one of the smallest gamelan groups, as it only requires two players, but is complete at four, with the additional instruments doubling an octave above. Like other forms of gamelan, this style of music is known for its delicate interlocking melodies. Since both hands are required to play with countrapuntal movements, syncopation, and synchronization with the other members of the group, gendér wayang is considered one of the most complex genres of Balinese music.
